Live in Color!
MiriSue's Artistic Vision
Among the landscapes and still-lifes of my work is a focus on portraiture. For me, a portrait can be a hand, a foot, an object, surroundings, or of course, a face. What is omitted is significant.
While my preferred medium is acrylic on large canvas, my new appreciation of plein air work has submersed me in graphite, watercolor and ink in smaller format. My style is influenced by linocut printmaking and graphic design. This results in my limited palette and line-work, as well as bold, simplified shapes and color choices.
Challenging myself with limited palettes and seemingly simple compositions, I attempt to reach common base emotions in order to bring them to our consciousness. Investigating the universal emotions in the human experience can connect people at their essence and encourages thriving and bonding in community.
